New Canaan dog owners on the “delinquent list”—those who had dogs licensed in the past but haven’t done so in this licensing year (which started July 1)—can expect to get a reminder soon from the Town Clerk’s office. There are about 500 dog owners on that list and, according to Officer Allyson Halm, head of the New Canaan Police Department’s Animal Control section, the list includes all 15 dog owners who had been cited and fined last year for failure to license their dogs.

The Planning & Zoning Commission on Tuesday night approved an application to re-subdivide into four lots a combined 10.14-acre parcel on Greenley Road. The 5-acre parcel at 291 Greenley already includes a 6,300-square-foot home that was built in 1927 (the same year that New Canaan High School and Karl Chevrolet were founded), tax records show. An adjacent, vacant 5.14-acre lot at what has been called 251 Greenley Road forms the other part of the newly subdivided property. The properties are owned by a Hobe Sound, Fla. woman, according to Connecticut Secretary of the State records.

Police last week cited a 17-year-old from Trumbull for drug and motor vehicle violations after stopping the teen on Main Street for driving with an excessively loud muffler. The stop happened around 6:08 p.m. on Aug. 24. The car also had after-market window tints without an inspection sticker from the state, police said. Police found a bong and some pot, citing the teen for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, as well as improper muffler.

It appears the all-time record for most conditions attached to a P&Z approval will no longer be held by Merritt Village. At Tuesday’s P&Z meeting, commissioners reviewed a proposed 101 conditions for the Grace Farms special permit approval.

Parents of Saxe Middle School students returning Wednesday to a newly expanded and renovated building received a warm note from Principal Greg Macedo. In it, he urged parents to have their kids thank the Saxe custodians who cleaned more than 130 classrooms in preparation for the start of the school year while relocating 70 teachers to new classrooms.

State officials have issued an administrative order to St. Lukes Foundation—owner of the private school’s North Wilton Road property—for exceeding the level of allowable lead in the water system at its art building. The issue date of the violation was April 26, according to the state Department of Public Health’s recently released Regulatory Action Report for the second quarter of 2017. Head of School Mark Davis said the reading in question actually happened in July 2016, that a remediation plan was put in place immediately and all subsequent tests have been 100 percent clear.

Finally, New Canaan Library is taking applications now for its biennial Artist in Residence program, which is set to begin on April 9, 2018. During the program, the artist will exhibit his or her art in the Curtis Gallery and run hands-on sessions where individuals can learn about and experience the process under the guidance of the artist.
