Police last week arrested a 19-year-old Pound Ridge, N.Y. man on several drug-related charges after responding to a report of an attempted motor vehicle theft.

At about 8:47 p.m. on Aug. 21, a Monday, officers were dispatched to the Walgreens parking lot on Pine Street on a report that someone was taking a vehicle without its owners permission, police said.

Approaching the car, officers saw the teen—its only occupant—in the driver’s seat and smelled marijuana, according to a police report.

During a subsequent investigation, police found marijuana, metal grinder, rolling papers, $1,420 in cash, a glass jar with 303 Xanax pills (2 mg), packages of various cigars and two boxes of Zip-Loc bags.

The teen said the items belonged to him. Police charged him with sale of a controlled substance, sale of a hallucinogenic/narcotic, use and possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

He was held on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear the next day, Aug. 22, in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

The owner of the vehicle that had been used without permission did not pursue charges, police said.
