Drunk Driving Charge for New Canaan Woman, 53

Police on Tuesday afternoon arrested a 53-year-old Summer Street woman and charged her with driving under the influence. 

At about 4:27 p.m. on Aug. 20, an officer was dispatched to White Oak Shade Road near Farm Road on a report of an erratic driver who had crossed the double-yellow line, according to police. The officer found the driver and, while following her on Lakeview Avenue, saw her traveling in the oncoming traffic lane,  according to a police report. During a subsequent stop, the motorist failed field sobriety tests, the report said. She refused to undergo a test to establish her blood-alcohol level, it said.

Assault, Disorderly Charges for New Canaan Man, 39

Police late Friday arrested a 39-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. At about 10:08 p.m. on Aug. 16, officers were dispatched to a Vitti Street home on a report of a domestic dispute between two occupants of the residence, officials said. Following an investigation, authorities brought the misdemeanor charges, according to a police report. It isn’t clear what the dispute involved, how it turned physical, whether or how the man is related to the victim or what was the extent of the victim’s injuries.

Police: DUI Charge for 31-Year-Old Man Found Asleep at the Wheel

Police on Sunday arrested a 31-year-old Westport man found asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle in Waveny. At about 5:59 p.m. on Aug. 11, responding officers saw the parked car and tried several times to wake up the driver by speaking to him, according to a police report. Finally, an officer was able to reach through an open window and shake the man’s shoulder to wake him up, the report said. Officers detected signs of impairment and smelled alcohol on his breath as well as marijuana in the car, it said.

Police: Larceny, Interfering Charges for 59-Year-Old Man

Police on Monday arrested a 59-year-old Wallingford man and charged him with larceny and interfering. 

At about 9:50 a.m. on Aug. 5, officers were dispatched to a Grove Street business on a report of a man who had been inside on Saturday acting in a concerning manner and who had taken several items from the business without permission, according to a police report. The complainants provided a photo of the man’s vehicle and license plate, which authorities traced to a stolen U-Haul truck out of Manchester, the report said. Investigators found the truck and the man at the Gulf Station on South Avenue, it said. He didn’t cooperate with police, giving several different names when asked to identify himself, the report said.

36-Year-Old Man Arrested After Dispute Downtown 

Police on Monday night arrested a 36-year-old New York City man who refused to comply with authorities after instigating a dispute in downtown New Canaan. At about 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 5, officers were dispatched to Elm Street and South Avenue on a report of a dispute between two men, according to a police report. There, police determined that the New York City man was the aggressor in the incident, the report said. According to the victim, the man approached him as he sat in his vehicle in a legal parking space, then stuck his hand through the open driver’s side window, inside the vehicle and became aggressive, it said.
