Police on Sunday arrested a 31-year-old Westport man found asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle in Waveny.

At about 5:59 p.m. on Aug. 11, responding officers saw the parked car and tried several times to wake up the driver by speaking to him, according to a police report. Finally, an officer was able to reach through an open window and shake the man’s shoulder to wake him up, the report said.

Officers detected signs of impairment and smelled alcohol on his breath as well as marijuana in the car, it said. The man failed field sobriety test and police found pot and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, the report said.

He submitted to a test to establish his blood-alcohol level, which was found to be .14—nearly twice the legal limit.

Police charged the man with operating under the influence and also cited him for possession of less than. 5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released on $260 bond and scheduled to appear Aug. 20 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
