In a confrontation with another woman, a 28-year-old New Canaan woman brought along her pit bull, which attacked and bit the other woman, town police said.

The dog’s attack left three scratches on the left leg of a 21-year-old New Canaan woman, along with a “pin-sized mark” in the same place, police said.

The victim’s 25-year-old boyfriend, a Bronx resident, went to her defense, then was grabbed by the New Canaan dog owner, who started choking him. He had scratch marks and welts on the right side of his neck, police said.

On Friday, Aug. 7, the dog owner and a friend (a 19-year-old Norwalk woman) went to a Winfield Lane home where the victim was housesitting in order to get back $100 that had been loaned by the Norwalk teenager to the victim, according to police. The money was returned, but the confrontation continued.

At 11:08 p.m., the dog owner and friend who wanted the money called New Canaan police to say they’d been robbed and assaulted. When police looked into the matter, they charged the two people who reported the incident, not the house-sitting woman and her boyfriend.

The two women were each charged with disorderly conduct, and the 28-year-old New Canaan woman was also charged with third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment. Each teenager was released on a promise to appear Aug. 18 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Update, 6:28 p.m.: New Canaan police indicated that the New Canaan woman with the pit bull is 18 years old, but we have information indicating she is 28 years old. The article has been changed to reflect that new information.
