Openings & Closings

• New Canaan Public Schools are closed: Grade 8 Student and Parent Orientation originally scheduled for March 5 has been rescheduled to next Wednesday, March 11, 7 p.m. at NCHS. Last day of school is now Friday, June 19.
• CT Sandwich Co. is open
• Candy Nichols will open at 12 p.m.
• Caren Forbes is opening at 12 p.m.
• New Canaan Library is closed and all lessons for Thursday are cancelled
• New Canaan Music is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Baskin-Robbins is open as of 11:30 a.m.
• South End is open (lunch starts at 11:30 a.m., dinner at 5 p.m.)
• Athletic Shoe Factory is open
• Rosie is closed
• Karl Chevrolet is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for service; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for sales

• New Canaan YMCA: Beginning at 8 a.m., all morning adult fitness and youth classes prior to 12 p.m. are cancelled; My Playroom is closed for the day; Rainbow Station, Y’s Little Owl Nursery School, and Kids Unlimited are closed for the day.

New Canaan Public Schools are closed Thursday, the district announced, as officials report slippery roads and limited visibility in the early morning following sleet and snow overnight.

With the cancellation, the district so far this winter has seen four snow days, pushing the tentative last day of school to Friday, June 19. (That remains the last day even if we have one more snow day—but with two more, Thursday April 2 becomes a regular school day. After that, Friday April 10—that’s April break week—becomes a school day.)

The National Weather Service posted a Special Advisory at 5 a.m. Thursday, saying temperatures would drop below freezing through 8 a.m., exacerbating poor road conditions. “Motorists should exercise extreme caution this morning,” the weather service said. Snow started before dawn and continues in New Canaan Thursday morning. Forecasts call for snow through about 4 p.m. and a total of up to four inches.
