East School and South School families did the best job attending school on the Friday prior to February break, according to data obtained by NewCanaanite.com.

Though each of the New Canaan Public Schools saw a drop from average attendance rates on that day (and it even started on Thursday—see below), none saw a steeper decline than the high school, followed by the fifth grade, and then West. Here’s the data:

The Animal Control section of the New Canaan Police Department at 10:13 a.m. on Feb. 25 responded to an Oak Street home on a report of squirrel loose in the house. The rodent appears to have snuck out when the door was opened, prior to the arrival of Animal Control. The whole time, a Shi-Tzu was sleeping upstairs.

Congrats to NCHS basketball players Tyler Sweeney and Campbell Armstrong for being named to the All FCIAC Second team. Sweeney was a star for the boys hoops team, as the junior swingman emerged as one of the most dangerous offensive players in the conference averaging close to 20 points per game, including a career-high 35 against St. Joe’s last month.

Meanwhile Armstrong was a one-woman wrecking crew for the girls varsity squad, scoring from the paint and also from three-point range. The junior forward was also a significant presence on the defensive side, leading the Rams in rebounds and blocked shots. The highlight of her season was scoring a career-high 29 points in a 51-24 win over McMahon in January.

Twice in the space of a week this month, police received complaints of dog owners letting their beasts off leash at Kiwanis Park on Old Norwalk Road. At about 12:03 p.m. on Feb. 19, police gave a verbal warning to a mom who had brought her daughter and dog to the playground there, and let the latter off of a leash. One week later, at 9:53 a.m. on Feb. 26, police arrived following a neighbor’s complaint but found no dogs upon arrival.
