A 1:01 a.m. Saturday call to police ended an underage-drinking party on West Road near Dans Highway, New Canaan police said.
Police gave this account (with accusations not proven in court) of the incident:
When police arrived, they saw groups of youths trying to flee the property, although the heavily wooded area around the house prevented many of them from getting far.
Approaching the house, police found numerous empty and full beer cans. Nobody they found at the scene was 21 years old or older. Officers found the host, a 19-year-old resident of the home, and charged her with permitting minors to illegally possess liquor and procuring liquor for minors.
She told police that she had planned a small get-together with several friends at her house. At some point during the party, she said, more people arrived, uninvited, but she thought she could keep the party under control. None of the other 15 to 16 people present was charged, since police didn’t see any individuals in possession of alcohol.
The partygoers ranged in age from 17 or 18 to 20 years old. It’s New Canaan Police Department policy to call parents and have them pick up underage drinkers or have the drinkers go home with a sober driver, and that was done in this case, police said.
The host of the party is scheduled to appear Sept. 2 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
