Two DUI Arrests for Men Driving Wrong-Way on Millport

Police arrested two Norwalk men for drunk driving a few minutes apart last Sunday night after each steered his car over a curb at Millport Avenue went the wrong way down the one-way street.

It happened around 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 1, when an officer conducting a motor vehicle stop on Main Street near Harrison Avenue heard a loud crashing sound and turned to see a vehicle heading the wrong way down Millport Avenue, according to a police report.

A second car immediately followed the first, and the officer who had been backing up the initial traffic stop pursued that vehicle, the report said.

The first motorist, a 43-year-old Norwalk man, was stopped on Millport Avenue near East Avenue, where the arresting officer smelled an odor of alcohol on the man’s breath and noticed the he appeared unsteady on his feet. The man failed field sobriety tests and submitted to a urine test, the report said.

He was charged with driving under the influence and released on $300 bond. He additionally was cited for traveling the wrong way on a one-way street and disobeying the signal of an officer.

Meanwhile, the second officer stopped the second driver, a 30-year-old man also from Norwalk, according to the report. Approaching, the officer detected an odor of alcohol coming from within the vehicle. The motorist failed field sobriety tests and police arrested him for driving under the influence, and cited him for driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

He was released on $250 bond and both men were scheduled to appear Nov. 12 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
