[NewCanaanite.com asked Jim O’Neill and Phil Williams of New Canaan Music to give townies something they’d like on a Tuesday morning, and they came up with “Rocky Top”—have a listen. Jim is on a “u-bass” and Phil a Martin D-41.]

Phil Williams, owner of New Canaan Music—located down the alley at the top of Elm Street—says two instruments are trending right now among musicians and aspiring musicians in town: ukelele and banjo. “People want to do something different,” Williams said Tuesday morning from inside the store he opened six months ago. New Canaan Music offers instrument rentals and sales, as well as lessons. Banjo lessons are trending especially among women in town, he said.

After decades of dormancy and wide speculation on prospective buyers, the famed Huguette Clark property at 104 Dan’s Highway now has a buyer. “Le Beau Château” as it’s known, was constructed in 1937 and sits on a 52-acre estate, according to a website dedicated to the property and overseen by New Canaan’s Barbara Cleary’s Realty Guild. The listing went to pending on Tuesday, Realtors say. New Canaan Realtor Chris Sigg said: “After five years and five months on the market and a 33 percent price reduction, the famed Huguette Clark estate built in 1937 has now gone to contract. This 9-bedroom, 14,000-square-foot home is undoubtedly a lost treasure from a time of true grandeur.

New Canaan Approves 5-Year Lease for Popular Food Concessions

Town officials on Tuesday approved a 5-year lease with a local merchant who runs popular snack shacks at town parks. Emad Aziz owns and operates the Apple Cart Food Company, whose food concessions at Mead Park, Kiwanis and the Waveny Pool are fixtures among residents using the town facilities. “I can honestly say that I have never heard a complaint about his service or his food, he’s always positive,” New Canaan Administrative Officer Tom Stadler said during the Board of Selectmen’s regular monthly meeting, held at the Police Department. The board unanimously approved the lease, keeping it at $10,000 per year—half of which goes to the Waveny Pool fund, the other half to the town’s general fund. Raising the rate would simply pass that cost onto residents by forcing Aziz to raise prices, officials said.
