Town officials on Tuesday approved a contract for a much-needed re-paving project on Valley Road.
Norwalk-based FGB Construction is prepared to start working on Valley between 106 and Ferris Hill next week, under an approximately $323,000 contract approved by the Board of Selectmen, part of the town’s regular roads improvement program.
“That stretch of Valley is in real poor shape,” First Selectman Rob Mallozzi said at the board’s meeting, held in the Training Room at the New Canaan Police Department.
Department of Public Works Assistant Director Tiger Mann said FGB has done very good work for New Canaan in the past. Valley Road north of Ferris Hill has been done in recent years, Mann said. Though the town had wanted to wait for Silver Hill Hospital to wrap up capital work on its lower Valley Road campus, the re-paving “cannot wait any longer,” Mann said.
Mann said the DPW has heard from many residents eager to see Valley re-paved.
Selectman Beth Jones asked whether there are any bridges on that stretch of Valley and Mann said that no, though there is one culvert.
During the meeting, the selectmen also approved a contract between New Canaan and East Otis, Mass.-based Williams Stone for $6,601 in granite curbing for sidewalks on Heritage Hill Road and Pine Street. A stretch of the downtown along the east side of Park Street between Cherry and Elm is set to get a new brick sidewalk with granite curbing soon, as well.
