Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested an Old Greenwich woman, 41, and charged her with leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle.
At about 1:31 p.m. on Sept. 27, police received a complaint from a witness that a 6-month-old baby was inside an unattended vehicle in the Acme parking lot on Elm Street for about eight minutes, according to a police report.
The vehicle was running with its air conditioning on, the report said.
The woman—an employee of a New Canaan family—had gone inside Acme to purchase a few items, and had left the baby in the car because the infant was sleeping, the report said.
Police contacted her at the local home where she’s employed, the report said.
In this case, the charge is a misdemeanor offense, under state law.
The woman was released after promising to appear Oct. 9 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
What is going on where we can’t leave a sleeping baby in an air conditioned car for a few minutes? This is over-zealous application of a too invasive rule.

The judgment of the mother for her child is hers and hers alone.
A lot of what if’ this or that might happen takes the responsibility away from the mother. What she did by leaving her child in an air conditioned car is far better than not. What would you have, AC or no AC. At least the mother cared enough for the child’s comfort.
