Police arrested a 69-year-old Food Emporium worker accused of trying to steal $148 in round roasts and pork loins from the Elm Street grocery store on Saturday evening.
At about 6:32 p.m. on May 8, police were notified by Food Emporium officials that the worker, a Danbury man, had been caught trying to smuggle the meat—four pieces total—out of the store in what normally would be empty boxes, according to a police report.
The man was interviewed by the store’s loss prevention professional and gave him a statement admitting to the attempted larceny, the report said.
Police issued a misdemeanor summons at 8 a.m. the next morning, the report said.
He was charged with criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny and released after promising to appear May 22 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
