Police arrested a 27-year-old West Haven man by warrant on Jan. 22 and charged him with third-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, 10 counts of illegal use of a credit card and four counts of credit card theft.

He’s accused of stealing credit and debit cards, as well as a portable GPS navigation system, from a Main Street woman’s (unlocked) car some time between the evening of Nov. 6 and the following morning, according to a police report.

The victim, a 55-year-old woman, learned of the theft when the bank phoned her to say possible fraudulent charges were appearing on her debit card, the report said.

Police said that the man charged a total of about $1,154 on the cards in Meriden and Derby.

They identified him after obtaining video surveillance images from a gas station at a Merritt Parkway rest stop in Fairfield, police said.

New Canaan Police served their warrants on the man after West Haven Police picked him up in connection with a separate incident.

He was held on $45,000 and scheduled to appear Jan. 22 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
