Police on Thursday arrested a 43-year-old woman at South School for drunk driving after a report that she was intoxicated and trying to pick up her child.

At about 2:13 p.m. on June 9, police made contact with the woman at the school and detected the odor of alcohol on speaking with her, according to a police report.

She failed field sobriety tests at the scene and declined to take a breath test, the report said.

Police charged her with driving under the influence.

She was released after promising to appear June 20 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

  1. To our readers, we had a local man who submitted a comment attacking this woman, saying she should be publicly shamed, and he posted under the username ‘Captain Morgan.’ After we published the comment under this person’s first name (Mark) and last initial, he sent me this email:

“I posted a comment to the story below. It was meant to be anonymous (which is why I signed it ‘Captain Morgan.’ If you don’t want to publish it that way, fine, don’t, but DON’T take it upon yourself to add my name on your own! That’s NOT right. REMOVE IMMEDIATELY!”

My response to him: “You’re hardly in a position to talk about what’s right, trying to post anonymous pot-shots on a website that reaches local people. Your comment has been removed in its entirety and I imagine you will not be visiting our website any time soon.”

And that’s because his IP address has been blocked. If you can’t stand by your own comments, then don’t bother submitting them. I verify identities on each of our commenters, and require people to use either their entire real name or some part of it, deciding which on a case-by-case basis. No comment will appear on NewCanaanite.com without my approval. Thank you.

  2. Well done, Mike.
Publicly shaming this woman is completely unnecessary and does nothing more than fuel the gossip mill. I wish more news outlets would follow your lead in 1. Not naming people accused of small, non-violent crimes and 2. Taking a moral stand on someone with “internet muscles” hiding behind a fake name in comments. You are a pillar of local journalism and New Canaanites are lucky to have you.
