Police after midnight Friday arrested a 43-year-old Cos Cob man for drunk driving after he stopped in the middle of the road to text.

At about 12:20 a.m. on June 10, an officer spotted a vehicle stopped on East Avenue and straddling the double yellow line, according to a police report.

The officer smelled alcohol during a traffic stop and the motorist told him he had been stopped in the roadway in order to text, the report said.

The motorist failed field sobriety tests and then tested at about half again as high as the legal blood-alcohol limit, the report said.

He was charged with driving under the influence and cited for failure to drive right and distracted driving. The man was released on $260 bond and scheduled to appear June 22 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
