Police on Friday arrested a 30-year-old on a misdemeanor larceny charge after he drove his car away from a service station downtown without paying the fee for its tow.

At about 1 p.m. on Sept. 22, officers were dispatched to the Gulf at 36 South Ave., police said. There, they learned that that the man owed $254 in fees for the tow and told employees at the Gulf that he’d return in two hours to pay, then left, according to a police report.

Norwalk police found the man and took him into custody for New Canaan police on a sixth-degree larceny charge, the report said.

He was released after promising to appear Oct. 6 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
