New Canaan police are searching for two men suspected in thefts Friday afternoon from mailboxes along lower Weed Street, officials said.

The thefts occurred around 12:21 p.m. on March 10, in the 200 block of Weed Street, according to a press bulletin issued by Police Lt. Jason Ferraro, the department’s public information officer.

“Suspects are described as two black males middle aged, driving a black Dodge Charger with an unknown registration plate,” Ferraro said.

They later were seen dumping pieces of mail from the car on Elm Street, police said.

According to Ferraro, police captured a video surveillance image of one of the suspects, who entered TD Bank on Elm Street to cash a check for $467. That happened around the same time that police received a call regarding the thefts from mailboxes, Ferraro said. It was not immediately clear whether the cashed check had been stolen earlier.

U.S. Postal Service inspectors are assisting in the NCPD investigation, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Canaan Police Investigative Section at 203-594-3522.
