Congratulations to Elizabeth Miller and Tyler Hill, NewCanaanite.com Athletes of the Week.
Miller, a senior captain on the girls basketball team has been a key figure in the Rams’ success as New Canaan eclipsed last season’s win total just nine games into the 2014-15 campaign. The senior point guard has been New Canaan’s most consistent player throughout the season, frequently reaching double-digits in scoring–including a team-high 14 points in the Rams’ first win of the season over McMahon–while also racking up impressive numbers in the rebounding and assists columns. Behind Miller’s leadership the 4-7 Rams are in contention in both the FCIAC and state playoff races.
After starting the season 1-3, many fans were writing off the New Canaan boys ice hockey team. The Rams then promptly went on a 4-game winning streak, moving back into the conversation as one of the FCIAC’s top teams. A major reason for New Canaan’s turnaround has been the play of Tyler Hill. The sophomore forward had 2 goals and 2 assists in a 6-2 win over Fairfield and scored the game-winning goal against Notre Dame-West Haven two nights later. The Rams are now 5-4-1 and 3-1-0 in conference play.
