The town last Monday issued a permit to build a 7,820-square-foot home on a 2.22-acre Oenoke Ridge Road property.

The town has issued a permit to build this 7,820-square-foot, 6-bedroom home on the 2.22-acre property at 549 Oenoke Ridge Road.

The town has issued a permit to build this 7,820-square-foot, 6-bedroom home on the 2.22-acre property at 549 Oenoke Ridge Road.

The new construction will more than double the existing 1965-built Colonial at 549 Oenoke Ridge—for decades the home of beloved, late New Canaanite Dick Reifers. An avid gardener who was active in town affairs, Reifers was honored last year by the Public Tree Board, which planted a sycamore on the banks of Mead Pond in his honor on Arbor Day.

The property was purchased for $1,625,000 in May, tax records show.

It’s owned by a limited liability company whose principals reside in Westport and in Pound Ridge, N.Y., according to records on file with the Connecticut Secretary of the State.

The new home will be built by Pound Ridge-based Riverside Design & Development LLC for about $1.2 million, according to the building permit.

It will include six bedrooms and full bathrooms, two half-baths, four fireplaces and an elevator, the permit said.

Building officials on Oct. 5 also issued a permit to build a new home on Fairty Drive that will quadruple the size of the smaller home it is replacing.

The .33-acre lot at 60 Fairty Drive sold in June for $850,000 and the 1,096-square-foot Ranch-style home that had stood on it since 1950 was demolished two months later, tax records show.

The new 3,913-square-foot home will include five bedrooms, four full bathrooms, one half-bath and a finished attic and basement.
It will be built for about $665,000 by Norwalk-based Able Construction, also the project’s architect, according to the permit.
