A permit finally has been issued (Tuesday) for the 7-bedroom home planned for 75 Parade Hill Road—a vacant lot where New Canaan’s late, legendary photographer Syd Greenberg used to live.
Greenberg, a New York City-born, celebrated World War II photographer—a tech sergeant in the 164th Signal Corps deployed in China who also was embedded with the Chinese National Army—passed in January 2012 at age 92. For decades he had served as the affable if unofficial photo-archivist for New Canaan, a longtime Justice of the Peace for whom the town gathered at a memorial service in the spring following his passing. Much of his historical New Canaan photo collection was given to the member-supported New Canaan Historical Society—much of it also is safely stowed in well-loved photo albums, framed in family rooms and longstanding local businesses.
The property at 75 Parade Hill Road—purchased by Greenberg for $16,000 in 1954, the year he built the ranch house—sold last May for $410,000, tax records show.
It’s owned by Imperial Real Estate Holdings LLC, a company held by two Darienites, according to records on file with the Connecticut Secretary of the State.
The new construction is estimated to cost $640,000, the permit says. Here’s a fuller description of the planned house, from Coldwell Banker.

The town also issued a permit Tuesday for the adjoining condos slated to go in at the corner of East Avenue and Hoyt Street.
The condos—2,900 square feet apiece—will include four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, two half-baths, a washer/dryer room, space for a future elevator, a finished basement and attic, garage and open patio, the permit says.
Construction will cost an estimated $800,000 and will be completed by Celotto Properties Inc.
According to the assessor’s database, the property on April 15 was sold to 91-93 East Avenue LLC.
According to the Connecticut Secretary of the State, that LLC’s principal is Graham Foster of Darien.
