New Canaan police arrested a Forest Street man on felony charges after he kicked in his bedroom door and later violated a protective order, officials say.

The 42-year-old was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, third-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

At 10:26 p.m. on Feb. 1, police received a call that the man had kicked in and broken a door to a bedroom with his wife and two small children inside, according to a police report.

Police set some no-contact conditions upon releasing the man on $3,500 bond and assigning a Feb. 3 court date, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. On Feb. 2, police learned that at about 1 p.m. that day, the man had pulled up alongside his wife’s car at a Merritt Parkway gas station and said he wanted to take the kids to a children’s museum in Norwalk, according to Ogrinc.

She then discovered that, since his release on bond, the man had tried phoning her on a cellphone three times, police said. He phoned a fourth time to set up a time to exchange the children at the museum in Norwalk, police said. There, police arrested him on five counts of violation of a criminal protective order—once for the gas station incident and once each for each phone call—and he was released on $100,000 bond.

He was scheduled to appear Feb. 3 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
