Just as its roads and residents thaw from the storm that closed the schools and library Monday—and sent at least one SUV through a guardrail—New Canaan is expected to get another three to five inches of snow, starting after midnight and turning into freezing rain after 12 p.m. Wednesday.
If school is canceled, that would be the fifth snow day of the year, leaving just four more until the days start eating into April break.
For now: February break arrives week after next and April break still is scheduled for the week of April 14. The last day of school would a half day on Friday, June 13.
Something for New Canaanites to keep in mind: the so-called “Ice Missile Law” that took effect Dec. 31. As you pull out of the house Wednesday, make sure your car is clear of collected ice and snow.
New Canaan—and all of Fairfield County—are under a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service for heavy snow, from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
