Town Hall is on a 2-hour delay for Wednesday and will open at 10:30 a.m., officials said. To this point, 11.6 inches of snow have fallen on New Canaan.

Update 3:45 p.m.

Trees have fallen across power lines on Carter Street and Wahackme Road. According to Eversource, 288 homes are without power. First Selectman Rob Mallozzi said power is expected to be restored at 4:30 p.m. So far, about 10 inches of snow has fallen in New Canaan, the National Weather Service reports.

Update 9:47 a.m.

Francos Wine Merchants has reported its first customer of the day.

Update 8:15 a.m.

The National Weather Service now is calling for up to about one foot of snow in New Canaan, and the blizzard watch has been downgraded to a winter storm watch. Visibility is one less than one-quarter mile and travel remains dangerous, the weather service said. Metro-North Railroad has suspended New Canaan branch line service for Tuesday.

Officials say Town Hall, the library and public schools will be closed Tuesday due to a winter storm expected to dump more than two feet of snow on New Canaan.

The town will see up to 26 inches of new snow through Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. New Canaan is under a blizzard warning through midnight Tuesday. Gusts are expected to reach 55 mph, with visibility near zero and whiteout conditions.

New Canaan is in “expecting crews to come in at 4 a.m. unless called in earlier, to pre-treat all parking lots and roads before the rush hours starts,” according to Mose Saccary, highway superintendent with the New Canaan Department of Public Works.

He added: “Hopefully people will stay home.”

Gov. Dannel Malloy issued a statewide travel ban effective 5 a.m. Tuesday.
