Update 3 p.m. Thursday

Nemo the missing calico cat has been found.

His loving owner, Courtney Ellison, said she’s “thrilled” following a sleepless night and then posting and handing out flyers and posters, and operating social media in order to try and locate the 12-year-old feline.

She ended up spotting him in a neighbor’s garage/barn Thursday afternoon, and he’s safely home now, she said. Nemo has had some food and cat treats “and is now sitting on a heat vent in my house,” Ellison said.

The owner of an orange-and-white calico cat spotted at 6 a.m. Wednesday in New Canaan is calling on residents to help locate her pet so he can be returned safely to her.

Nemo is 12 years old and weighs about 13 pounds, according to owner Courtney Ellison (see photo at right and flyer below). He was spotted early Wednesday at Weed Street and Ash Tree Lane, she said.

“He is an outdoor/indoor cat but it is unusual for him to be gone so long in the cold weather,” she told NewCanaanite.com. “He is very wary of strangers, but does answer to his name most of the time for his family.”

The cat is not micro-chipped and doesn’t wear a collar, she said.

  1. Bravo NewCanaanite for bringing the story of this lost pet to the public. So happy the cat is back home safe! It might be wise for the owner to consider keeping the cat indoors only from now on, not only because of his age, but also because there are dozens and dozens and DOZENS of cats lost each winter in New Canaan to coyotes, fox, racoons, cars, and cold weather. The question to ask: Is it worth the risk? A 12 year old cat would probably love to retire to that heat register for the rest of his senior years! So glad for the happy reunion!

  2. So happy for Nemo and you. PLEASE, at least, get him a collar with your name, address, phone. Best…microchipped. Better still, indoors only especially in winter.
