Police on Saturday cited a 23-year-old New Canaan man for simple trespass and unlawful dumping after he got caught throwing garbage bags into a dumpster downtown.
At about 4:26 p.m. on Feb. 17, officers were dispatched to the commercial building at the corner of Locust Avenue and Cherry Streets on a report of 10 large black garbage bags dumped into a large garbage container there without permission, police said.
During an investigation, officials reviewed video surveillance that showed a motor vehicle later determined to belong to the 23-year-old, a Hawthorne Road resident, according to a police report.
The video showed him pull up to the container, exit the vehicle and place all 10 bags in it, the report said.
Police found the man at his home and issued the two infractions, which he must pay or plead to.
