On behalf of the Exchange Club of New Canaan, thank you to the New Canaan community and residents from nearby towns for buying Christmas trees and wreaths from our annual fundraiser at Kiwanis Park. Your generous support once again made our fundraising efforts a success, as it has for over fifty years. We were also pleased to see so many adults and children attending our annual Lou Moreno tree lighting ceremony.
The event had another record year, with over 1,300 trees and 1,700 wreaths sold. We netted nearly $100,000, which we’ll distribute to local not-for-profit and community organizations, as we do every year.
We could not have been successful without the help from many organizations and individuals including the Service League of Boys, Pivot Ministries, the Shepherds, the New Canaan Recreation Department, the Chamber of Commerce, Old Faithful, Gelatissimo, the Studio Singers, First Selectman (and Exchange Club member) Kevin Moynihan, and our watchdog Wisdom.
We’ll begin our Grants and Donations process in April. Traditionally, our largest recipient is the Exchange Club Parenting Skills Center in Stamford, whose main focus is prevention of child abuse. In 2018, we also supported 35 other local organizations, and we anticipate supporting many good causes this coming year.
