Police are investigating a New Canaan man’s complaint that $300 in cash was stolen Sunday afternoon, together with a wallet containing debit cards and a driver’s license when he left it inside his car with the doors unlocked and engine running.

He did that while parked at the Food Emporium on Elm Street because his dog was inside the car with the air conditioning running, according to a police report. The man entered the market and went to pay for his items around 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 23, but realized at the register that he didn’t have any money, the report said. When he went back out to his car, perhaps five minutes after leaving it in the lot, he found that the wallet was gone, the report said, and told police about it within the hour.

Some time between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 18, two Redmax-brand backpack blowers and a walk-behind blower went missing from a landscaping truck, according to the equipment’s owner, a Stamford man.

A work crew had been cutting lawns and doing other work on a number of properties and the gear went missing as they were cleaning up, according to a police report.
