NEW CANAAN – Many residents have skipped town for undoubtedly warmer environs. Even so, for New Canaanites who remained behind for this winter break, the tune of “Winter Weather Advisory” is a familiar one from the National Weather Service.

The area is supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow accumulation with wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour on Saturday. With temperatures dipping below freezing at sunset, it could make for some hazardous Saturday night travel on the roads with black ice becoming an issue.

As of now the main roads – including Oenoke Ridge and Route 123 – are in decent shape, as are the downtown streets.

Many secondary and tertiary roads, however, are covered with a fresh coating of snow despite the presence of the Highway Department, who have more than earned their keep this winter.

The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11pm tonight.
