Drunk New Canaan Teen Punches Younger Boy at Waveny Fireworks

An 18-year-old New Canaan man—drunk at Waveny the night of the fireworks—punched a much younger teen at the popular gathering, according to a police report.

The arrested teen, a Chichester Road resident, reportedly was very intoxicated and belligerent when he approached a 13-year-old town boy that he knew and gave him a fat lip, according to a police report.

It happened around 9:04 p.m., police said. The pair had words prior to the punch, and the victim straightaway found a police officer to report what happened.

The 18-year-old refused to let police look at his cellphone when the found him at the park, police said.

He was charged with third-degree assault and interfering with an officer. He was released on $500 bond and scheduled to appear July 18 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
