Each year, Chevrolet teams up with the company’s dealers to make donations to local Little Leagues. The ongoing initiative has added extra equipment such as bats, balls, batting helmets, bags, first aid kits, safety equipment and netting to help the baseball leagues underwrite their overall costs. New Canaan Police at 12:14 p.m. Monday arrested a 37-year-old Bridgeport man and charged him with second-degree failure to appear. Authorities held a paperless re-arrest warrant after he failed to pay or plead following a Feb. 3 infract summons for improper use of marker plates.

Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County will offer a bereavement support group this spring to help adults cope with loss following the death of a beloved pet. The pet loss bereavement support group will be held on three consecutive Thursdays, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. beginning April 20 and running through May 4. The group will meet at the offices of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County in Suite 114 at the Health and Wellness Center at I-Park. I-Park is located at 761 Main Avenue (Route 7) on the Norwalk/Wilton town line.

Congratulations to Bankwell on being named one of the “Top 100 Best-Performing Community Banks” nationwide in 2016 in a report issued on March 21 by S&P Global Market Intelligence. Bankwell was the only Connecticut bank to make the Top 100 Community Bank listing. The ranking reflected financial metrics of community banks $1 billion to $10 billion in assets, including loan growth, net charge-offs as a percentage of average loans, efficiency ratio, pretax return on average tangible common equity and net interest margin.

A group of New Canaan volunteers committed to supportive and permanent housing for families in the South Bronx is spearheading its third fundraiser benefiting Thorpe Family Residence. Longtime New Canaan resident Ann Wronski heads the committee. This year’s event with entertainment, auction, and food will take place at Waveny House on Friday evening, May 5. The theme will be the Mexican holiday known as ‘Cinco de Mayo.’ The fundraiser will honor Monsignor William Scheyd of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in New Canaan for his support to Thorpe over the years.
