The Savings Bank of Danbury this week filed a notice of pending legal action that names Fotis Dulos as a defendant in a $2,795,000 foreclosure claim on a 2018-built Sturbridge Hill Road home that’s owned by his construction company. Filed in state Superior Court, the lis pendens—which lists other parties holding liens on the property, including the mother of Jennifer Dulos—was received Tuesday in the Town Clerk’s office.

New Canaan youth volunteers from the National Charity League’s class of 2021 gave their time last weekend to help set up for the Domestic Violence Crisis Center’s annual Holiday Bazaar. DVCC distributes gifts to nearly 400 adults and children. The youth volunteers took time out from sorting gifts and setting up to learn about how to identify teen dating violence from DVCC Peaceworks Manager Nikkia Ellis.

The town missed a revised filing deadline for reporting miscellaneous income to the IRS for 2017, and received a fine of $16,550. The “IRS fine” was noted in a legal bill that the Board of Selectmen approved Tuesday. Asked about the atter, New Canaan CFO Sandra Dennies said the IRS denied the town’s appeal, and that the town attorney advised paying the fine.

The same legal bill included this line item: “Legal research regarding application of CGS 7-12a to BOE.” State statute 7-12a holds that “the first selectman … shall be an ex-officio member, without vote, of all town boards, commissions and committees.” Asked whether he’d tasked the town attorney with finding out if he had authority to serve in some capacity on the Board of Education, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan told NewCanaanite.com in an email, “Legal advice is exempt from FOIA. Finally, New Canaan High School’s girls and boys squash teams are off to strong starts. Here’s a summary from Lisa Platt:
“The girls’ varsity squash team is off to a solid 2-2 start, led by senior and #1 player Tara Chugh and junior co-captains Sophie Havens and Lili Beecher at #2 and #3. Sophomore Delaney Smith, juniors Charlotte Sigg and Meghan Griffiths, senior Charlie Gardner and freshmen Serena Platt and Berkley Matthews have all played in matches this season. The girls lost their opener in a close one 4-3 to Sacred Heart, but followed up by beating rival Darien 4-3, with wins from Chugh, Havens, Smith and Platt. Greenwich proved to be difficult as the NC girls fell 5-2, but again they bounced back and beat St. Luke’s 7-0, not dropping a game in any of the matches.
“The boys’ varsity squash team is hard at work, rebuilding its team after losing its top 3 players to graduation. The team is 2-4 at the outset, led by senior co-captains Brad Hennessy and Jamie Cutler, followed by juniors Charles Brossy and Austin Platt, freshmen Robbie Hellmann and Cooper Jessop, junior Nick Lambrinos and senior Chris Richardson. The team has lost to top-rated teams like Bronxville and Greens Farms, and has played really well to beat Staples 4-3, with wins from Cutler, Brossy, Hellmann and Jessop. The NC boys beat Delbarton 6-1, with an exciting win from Hennessy 12-10 in the fifth and final game.
“The boys’ JV team started off its season with a 6-1 win over Greenwich C. The team has lost to some of the tougher teams in the league, including Bronxville and Greenwich. They had a close match with Greens Farms with wins from juniors Doyle Catlin and Henry Lindberg and freshman Bear Morris but it was not quite enough as the NC team fell 4-3.
