Police on Dec. 1 arrested a 17-year-old New Canaan girl on misdemeanor drug charges after she gave a younger teen a Gummy Bear laced with THC, the principal mind-altering ingredient of the cannabis plant.
The incident was reported at 2:25 p.m. on Nov. 17, after the girl who knowingly took the drug, an asthmatic 16-year-old, started having anxiety and difficulty breathing at New Canaan High School, according to a police report.
She was taken to a hospital, where officials during an interview with the teen determined that she had consumed the drug-laced Gummy Bear and developed a reaction, the report said.
According to New Canaan Police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, there often is no way of knowing just how much THC is going into individual Gummy Bears when they’re laced.
The 17-year-old was issued a summons for illegal distribution of marijuana and second-degree reckless endangerment.
She turned herself in on Dec. 1 and her case was referred to the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court in Stamford.
