With the end of season looming in the not-to-distant future, on Sunday, October 23rd the U10 Girls Mighty Reds headed to Old Greenwich for a rematch against the only team keeping them from a total winning record this season. The last time the Mighty Reds met the Old Greenwich Blues the score ended in a tie. The stakes were high and the Mighty Reds were focused to prove they were the better team.
The first half showcased the developed skills and importance of teamwork Coach Luke Green has been teaching the girls all season long: coordinated passing, skillful footwork and smart movement of the ball was illustrated by the strong offense of Reese Quinn, Eleanor duPont and Isabelle Janiga early in the game. Numerous shots on goal finally converted to the Mighty Reds scoring the first goal of the game by Sydney Patten. Payton DeCamillo ensured any shots on the New Canaan goal were easily deflected causing the Mighty Reds to lead the first half by 1-0.
Old Greenwich came back to the field stronger in the second half determined to equalize. The Mighty Reds defense had other ideas with Maddie Hartnett, Tessa Riley and Christina Swarni keeping Old Greenwich away from the New Canaan goal and passing the ball to their offensive team with Paige Place scoring two consecutive goals bringing the Mighty Reds lead to 3-0. Reese Quinn defended the goal with precision and agility with Old Greenwich pushing harder to try and place a goal on the score board. Julia McPhillips and Georgina Owsley continued the hard-fought offense with a pass to Maddie Tully for a goal within minutes of game time ending with a complete shut-out of Old Greenwich 4-0. Go Mighty Reds!

New Canaan Boys White 07 Dominate FUSA U10 Boys Blue 2
—submitted by Anne Walker
It was a gusty afternoon at Farm Road but the wind did not stop the New Canaan Boys White 07 from controlling the field with a definitive 5-0 win over Fairfield.
The boys started strong and stayed strong, giving FUSA little opportunity to score. Simon Tchakarov opened the first half with the team’s first goal with an assist by Parker Della Bitta. Soon after, Liam Cannon put another past Fairfield after a shot by Jack Mitchell ricocheted off the goalie. NC’s goalies Christian Crovatto (in the first half) and Gianmarco Barrato (in the second half) and defensive stronghold Oliver Sturn staved off any of Fairfield’s attempts as the boys continued to dominate from the first to the second half.
A big kick by Tchakavoc in the right-hand corner of the goal resulted in the NC’s third goal and John Murphy’s breakaway landed the forth. The offensive line, which included Ellis Frey, Gregory Martin and George Matviak, continued to hammer Fairfield with runs on goal until Gustavo Barrato put one last ball past Fairfield to win the game 5-0.
