Carol Shen had opened Shen New York at 1 Morse Court last May in the 800-square-foot space near Main Street that for three decades had housed Dance Corner Plus.

A Fairfield County resident, Shen said that her overall experience in New Canaan had been “positive.”

“The customers responded well to our clothing and many of them knew us from our stores in New York and were happy that we were there,” she told NewCanaanite.com in an email.

“There were a few good months when we had some really great sales with many loyal repeat customers. However, there were just too many slow in-between months when we saw very few shoppers, the lack of constancy in the traffic pattern made it difficult to manage our business so we decided to leave New Canaan and focus on our much busier locations” in Mystic, Conn. and New York City.

It sold lightweight, travel-friendly women’s wear and accessories.

Shen herself said she wanted to thank her loyal customers and the wider community.

“The decision to close this store has not been easy for me since I really loved this store, the beautiful town, and made some really good friends here,” she said.
