Police on Monday morning arrested 47-year-old Norwalk woman by warrant following reports that she stole a substantial sum of cash from a Boston-headquartered food services company working under a contract in New Canaan.

At 7:10 a.m. on Sept. 21, the woman, an employee of Unidine, turned herself in on a charge of second-degree larceny.

Accountants found that $14,883.26 in cash deposits had gone missing from the company’s accounts from June to August 2014, according to a police report. The company was doing contracted work at a Valley Road psychiatric hospital, police said.

There, she was responsible for transporting money taken in daily by food service and depositing the funds into a company bank account, the report said.

During an investigation that was prompted by end-of-fiscal-year accounting, officials discovered internally that the employee had not been making those deposits, the report said.

She was held on $14,250 bond and scheduled to appear Sept. 21. in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
