Read their lips: Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

Dropping in on the New Canaan Kiwanis Club’s popular St. Patrick’s Day dinner, we asked organizers and guests to look at the camera and wish a happy holiday to fellow New Canaanites—and warned them that they’d have to mouth the words or otherwise gesticulate, since the volume on their cutaways would be muted.

We think they did pretty well—take a look (and thanks, everyone, for being such good sports):

A family-friendly event as promised, the dinner drew more than 100 guests—mostly local families—to St. Aloysius School on Sunday night.

“We’re thrilled with the huge turnout,” Kiwanis President Stacey Hafen told NewCanaanite.com. “This is a wonderful event. There are lots of families who brought children and grandchildren. It’s the perfect community event.”

With some terrific Irish dancing, from Anam Kara Irish Dance School which operates in New Canaan and Stamford—and also gave the crowd a great song— and Stamford’s Pender Keady Academy of Irish Dance, featured in the video above.

Dining at two rows of long tables, attendees enjoyed either a kid-friendly meal or traditional corned beef and cabbage, with ice cream for dessert.

The ice cream was mint chocolate chip, which is not only green for the holiday, but is also New Canaan’s favorite flavor—we know that from past conversations with Anna Valente-Krolikowski, owner of Baskin-Robbins.

The New Canaan institution supplied the ice cream and was joined as a sponsor in the event by New Canaan’s Hoyt Funeral HomeHarrigan’s Insurance,Nurenu Marketing (see if you can spot Nurenu’s B.J. Flagg—twice—in the video) and New Canaan Chamber of Commerce.
