Kiwanis Club of New Canaan’s St. Patrick’s Day Dinner To Be Held March 17 at St. A’s

The Kiwanis Club of New Canaan’s popular St. Patrick’s Day dinner is around the corner, scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 in the St. Aloysius School’s dining hall. A community staple for years, the event features Irish dancing and traditional fare. Its sponsors include Hoyt Funeral Home, First County Bank, New Canaan Pediatric Dentistry, Hawthorne, Ackerly & Dorrance, Karl Chevrolet, Sperry DeCew, Karp Associates, New Canaan Eye Associates, New Canaan Dance Academy, Walter Stewart’s Market, Stewart’s Spirits, Baskin-Robbins, Nurenu Brand Marketing and NewCanaanite.com. 

All proceeds from the event go toward the Kiwanis Club’s scholarship program for local high school graduates. 

The club’s president, Jenny Esposito, said the food and Irish dancing are major draws, as well as attendees’ desire to support the Kiwanis Club’s scholarship fund. 

“It’s the whole atmosphere,” Esposito said.

Today, we catch up with Susan Serven, who heads the Kiwanis Club of New Canaan’s communications efforts. (As a member of the club these past three years, I speak from personal experience that it is a terrific group of people and we have a lot of fun together.)

New Canaanite: Is the Kiwanis Club of New Canaan part of a national or international organization? If so, please provide details of that organization, such as the year it started, its size and scope. Susan Serven: Kiwanis Club of New Canaan is a chapter of Kiwanis International, which is a global non-profit founded in 1915 in Detroit, MI. It’s an organization of members of every age, who are dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

Kiwanis Club of New Canaan Is Now Accepting Local Nonprofits’ Requests for Funding, March 31 Deadline

A local civic organization whose mission is “serving the children of the world” announced this week that it’s opening its annual season for funding requests from nonprofit organization. The Kiwanis Club of New Canaan will be able to allocate up to $2,000 per applicant and will take applications through March 31. “Those interested should submit a letter with the agency name, contact information, mission statement, detailed description of program, proposed use for funds and amount requested,” Kiwanis said in a press release. “Explanations of how your mission fits within the Kiwanis mission.”

Last year, Kiwanians gave a total of $9,620 to 24 local organizations. Its major fundraisers this year include the annual St.

The Kiwanis Club of New Canaan will be able to allocate up to $2,000 per applicant and will take applications through the end of this month (Feb. 29—it’s a Leap Year). “Those interested should submit a letter with the agency name, contact information, mission statement, detailed description of program, proposed use for funds and amount requested,” Kiwanis said in a press release. “Explanations of how your mission fits within the Kiwanis mission.”

Last year, with funds raised mainly through its summertime Zerbini Famiy Circus—presented in partnership with the New Canaan YMCA—Kiwanians gave a total of $16,000 to 16 local nonprofit organizations.
