Nearly $3,000 in electronics was stolen last week from an unlocked Old Stamford Road home, police said—one of two residential burglaries that has authorities once again urging New Canaanites to exercise caution.
The Old Stamford Road incident appears to have occurred some time between 8:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Dec. 1, according to a police report. A homeowner told police that he’d closed but not locked an exterior door that morning and when he arrived back home, noticed that it was partially open, the report said.
Missing items include a flatscreen TV, iMac, Playstation 4, Apple TV, hard drive, iPod Touch and Dell computer screen—about $2,859 worth of electronics, the report said.
Police are encouraging people “during this time of year to set alarms if they are leaving and report anything suspicious,” as well as to ensure that their homes are locked, Lt. Jason Ferraro said.
Police also are investigating a reported burglary on Birchwood Avenue.
At about 7:36 p.m. on Nov. 30, officers were dispatched to a residence there on a report of a door that had been forced open, according to a police report.
Arriving, police checked the interior and found that drawers in a master bedroom had been opened while other areas of the house were disturbed, the report said.
It was not immediately clear just what was stolen or its dollar value.
The home did not appear to have an activated alarm, the report said.
