Town officials said Tuesday night that they’re preparing to inspect a large and recently updated home and estate on Oenoke Ridge Road following reports that a spa is operating out of it.
Set on more than six acres near the intersection of Oenoke at Hemlock Hill Road, the would-be spa is said to include health and wellness services such as nutrition and massage therapy, with various professionals overseeing different tasks, according to Town Planner Steve Palmer. He referred to a website that details goings-on at the spa.
“I’m not sure if they [spa staffers] are all there at one time,” Palmer told members of the Planning & Zoning Commission during their regular meeting, held at Town Hall.
Palmer said that he isn’t certain whether what’s happening at the property amounts to a violation of the New Canaan Zoning Regulations. Typically, the department follows up on formal complaints where those tipping off town officials give their names, but “nobody has been willing to do that” in this case, Palmer said.
“I need to do an inspection,” he told P&Z. “I don’t know what is there other than what is shown on the website.”
The URL of that website was not disclosed during the public meeting.
Palmer’s comments came during a roundup of administrative actions for the commission.
He noted that the basement of the home in question underwent a “major renovation” recently.
The property to which he referred includes a 1930-built home with a total living area of nearly 16,000 square feet, according to tax records. It had been designed by renowned Brooklyn architect William Arthur Tubby, according to a real estate website’s description of the property—the same man who designed Waveny House.
The property was purchased for $6.4 million in 2014, tax records show. Since then, building permits have been issued for $440,000 of work, including renovation of 10 bathrooms, renovation of a cottage, installation of an in-ground pool and adjacent spa and conversion of an existing barn into a pool house.
Ok Good Evening,
It’s a month +
1) What did the inspection show and if that hasn’t happened yet… What is the name of the licensed to operate company?
Website up or down?
Details 2) Who is researching the Sober House operating or holding at 909 West St. How did they get a certificate to occupy and operate in New Canaan? Any overdoses? Any deaths? Who is the licensed operator or physician supervising the recovery home. Any criminal supervision needed?
Thanks,

Barb, thank you for uploading your comment.
