In today’s Q&A with a local business owner, we hear from Adam Jacobson, executive vice president of Pet Pantry Warehouse on Grove Street. Here’s our exchange. New Canaanite: How is Pet Pantry Warehouse faring at this time? Adam Jacobson: Thankfully, both the state of New York and the state of Connecticut have officially designated pet stores, such as Pet Pantry Warehouse, as ‘essential businesses.’ This means that we are allowed to remain open in order to service the needs of pets in your home and in the greater community at large. These are certainly uncertain times and business is not ‘as usual’ right now.

Pet Pantry Warehouse on Grove Street To Install Two ‘Pet Washing Stations’

A Grove Street pet specialty retailer that long has supported canine-related causes in New Canaan and surrounding towns is expanding its offerings with a new service for dog owners. Pet Pantry Warehouse is installing pet washing stations at the store and hopes to have the new facilities in place next month, according to Executive Vice President Adam Jacobson. Already in place at three of Pet Pantry’s seven area locations, the pet washing stations are specifically designed for dogs, Jacobson told NewCanaanite.com. 

“Our washes are raised washes so people can be standing and not hunching over in uncomfortable positions as if bathing in bathtub or shower at home,” Jacobson said. “So it’s much more comfortable for a client to use. On top of that, we provide all shampoo and towels at no additional charge and we are responsible for cleanup after the dogs are bathed.”

Dog owners are also provided with waterproof smocks so they can wash their dogs, he said.

Congratulations to family-owned pet supply retailer Pet Pantry Warehouse on its 75th year in business. Founded in Greenwich, Pet Pantry opened its New Canaan store on Grove Street seven years ago. In marking the milestone, the New Canaan Dog Days organizer is hosting in-store events throughout 2020—such as face painting, balloon art, ice cream socials, educational lectures, contests, portrait sessions and music—and is calling on locals to recommend nonprofit beneficiaries for its newly launched $75,000 fundraising effort. Saying it’s owed more than $19,000 for work and materials related to a Sturbridge Hill Road home-building project that’s nearing completion, a Meriden-based lumber company in February placed a mechanic’s lien against the construction company owned by Fotis Dulos, according to records on file in the Town Clerk’s office. ***

Pet Pantry Warehouse raised $15,000 at the 10th Annual New Canaan Dog Days event last month, funds that will be divided equally between beneficiary organizations Adopt-a-Dog and the New Canaan Nature Center. “We’re really pleased with this year’s event,” Pet Pantry Executive Vice President Adam Jacobson said. His company, which includes a retail store on Grove Street in New Canaan, has donated more than $45,000 to pet rescue groups through the event. ***
