South School students underwent a safety drill Thursday afternoon, according to an email sent to parents by interim Principal John Grasso. It was “an opportunity for staff and students to practice the procedures that are in place to secure the building in the event of a safety threat to the school,” Grasso said in the email. ***

Congratulations to New Canaan’s Jack Mountford, 11, a Saxe Middle School 7th-grader who qualified this summer to play in major U.S. junior tennis tournaments, including the National Championships on both clay and hard court surfaces. In early July Mountford traveled to Orlando, Fla., for the 12 & Under National Clay Court Championships. In August, he played the National Championships on hard courts in Mobile, Ala. In both events, Mountford made it several rounds eventually running into some of the top-ranked American players.

A limited liability company whose principal is a New Canaan man purchased adjacent vacant parcels on Oenoke Ridge totaling more than 10 acres, records show. Stonybrook LLC bought 1100 and 1102 Oenoke Ridge for $3 million, according to a property transfer recorded Monday in the Town Clerk’s office. The LLC’s principal is David Stone, according to Connecticut Secretary of the State records. ***

Superior Court Judge John Blawie placed a gag order on officials with respect to the Jennifer Dulos case, according to New Canaan Police. “No information will be provided from this date forward regarding this case until the order is lifted or additional arrests are made,” Lt. Jason Ferraro said in a bulletin emailed to media.

The Westchester, N.Y. woman who in July accused the town of race discrimination and threatened legal action while fighting a $30 parking ticket ended up paying the fine in the end. Farva Jafri paid the $30 on Aug. 6 and used New Canaan’s online system, which included a $3.50 service charge, NewCanaanite.com learned through a public records request.

First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said during a media briefing in his Town Hall office Thursday that two parties came forward Aug. 30 prepared to make formal proposals to acquire Vine Cottage but did so hours after a deadline, prompting the town to extend it. ***

The town last month suspended a player in the Recreation Department-run adult softball league after he misbehaved following a game, officials said. The July 2 incident unfolded after a row involving members of rival teams The Firm and Kaster Moving escalated, according to town officials.

Congratulations to newlyweds Ben and Laura Young, longtime New Canaan Public Schools teachers who tied the knot July 27 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Stamford followed by a ceremony at Waveny. Laura, a first-grade teacher at South School, and Ben, a seventh-grade Language Arts teacher at Saxe Middle School who also is the New Canaan High School boys varsity tennis coach, have been NCPS teachers for nine and 12 years, respectively. They honeymooned in Venice and Santorini. “We feel lucky and blessed to call NCPS our home, and we are excited for this next chapter in our lives,” the newlyweds said.
