The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday unanimously approved a contract with a Norwalk company to repave 10 local roads.
Though the final list of roads to be done is subject to change, as of now the $319,352 contract with FGB Construction will include parts of Brook Street, Cascade Road, Green Meadow Lane, Hill Street, Hillside Avenue, Jelliff Mill Road (a portion delayed due to the bridge project), Ledge Avenue, Raymond Street, Olmstead Court and Urban Street.
The company milled and paved a group of roads earlier this year and “it came out very well,” Public Works Director Tiger Mann told the selectmen during their regular meeting, held at Town Hall.
FGB “will be holding their unit prices for us,” he said.
First Selectman Kevin Moynihan and Selectmen Kit Devereaux and Nick Williams voted 3-0 in favor of the contract.
Williams said he can’t remember seeing so many newly paved roads as he has this summer.
“It’s all over town,” he said, adding: “It’s fabulous.”
Mann said that many roads have had a microthin overlay or “cape seal” added to the road.
He said that roads that have been repaved will get new striping prior to the start of school next week.
Moynihan said that some of the roads running alongside the natural gas pipeline installations will receive temporary patches, but that the stretch of Farm Road between Old Stamford Road and South Avenue (both state roads) will be repaved, as it has no houses on it.
