A Rosebrook Road dog is finishing up a quarantine at a Norwalk kennel this week, after running off of his property to attack a neighbor’s canine and that animal’s walker, according to police.

It happened around 9 a.m. on a Sunday two weeks ago, as the walker turned off of Rosebrook Road and onto Amy’s Lane, according to an incident report obtained by NewCanaanite.com through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The attacking dog, a Newfoundland named ‘Sasquatch,’ had barked in the past from behind the line of his electric fence when the smaller dog, a Shih Tzu named ‘Freddie,’ walked past, the report said.

This time, Sasquatch “ran off the yard and attacked them in the street,” it said.

“Freddie had blood on his fur and was limping on his right front leg,” the report said.

The walker, a Wilton woman, contacted Freddie’s owner, who returned home and took her dog to get medical attention, it said.

The extent of the walker’s injuries were not clear; police redacted the information in releasing the report.

Sasquatch’s owner told police that his dog had never breached the invisible fence before, the report said. According to a follow-up report from Officer Allyson Halm of the New Canaan Police Department’s Animal Control section, Sasquatch’s owners the following day, April 30, phoned to say they were concerned for the individual and dog injured by their Newfie.

Under state law, dogs who bite off of their own property must undergo a 14-day quarantine off-site (as opposed to at home), even if the dog is licensed and up-to-date on his or vaccinations. Sasquatch went to The Boarding House in Norwalk.

Freddie’s owner in speaking to Halm “expressed her concerns about having such an aggressive dog living on the same street,” the report said.

Halm also contacted the victim, who said she was “grateful for the concerns” relayed by Sasquatch’s owners.
