The store’s owner at 11:50 p.m. Friday reported that she found the letters ‘SLI’ spray-painted there, as well as a bubble letter symbol.

The vandalism occurred some time between 7 and 10 p.m. that night, according to a police report.

A Valley Road man told police that someone tried to gain entry to his home through a rear slider door late last week.

The home is vacant, and some time between 5 p.m. Thursday and 8:10 a.m. Friday, the lock on its door had been tampered with and damage had been done to a window, according to a police report.

It isn’t clear whether anyone actually entered the home, and nothing is missing from it.

The complainant’s age was not immediately available. He contacted police immediately after discovering the damage.

Police are investigating.

A 64-year-old Brushy Ridge Road woman told police she’s a fraud victim, after two credit card accounts had been opened in her name and charged a total of more than $600.

The woman last Thursday told police that she received mail from six different stores regarding credit card accounts opened in her name. Two of them said accounts had been opened—a Verizon Wireless account on Dec. 23, with $141 charged to it, and a New York & Co. account on Dec. 30, with $494 charged to it.

She contacted both companies to report the fraud and isn’t responsible for either amount, police said.
