Police Investigations: Drinking in Storage Shed; ATM Skimming; $800 Stolen

A New Canaan Youth Football storage shed near the Turf Field at the high school was broken into and it appears that whoever broke in was drinking alcohol inside, police said.

A report came in at 3:04 p.m. on March 2 by a woman affiliated with the nonprofit youth sports organization, according to a police report.

She told police that the shed, used to store equipment, underwent about $200 in damage (hinges, interior and exterior) though none of the gear inside appears to be missing.

The last known time it had been checked was Dec. 6, police said.

Police are investigating a report that $512 went unaccounted for at an ATM machine downtown during the six-month period ending Jan. 15.

The manager of a gas station in town told police at about 12:46 p.m. on March 3 that the White Plains, N.Y.-based company operating the ATM machine there appears to have been skimming, according to a police report.

The manager, a 33-year-old woman, told police that she flagged the missing money while cross-checking her own reports from the ATM against the vendor’s statements.

Police are investigating a 76-year-old woman’s report that an envelope with $800 in cash went missing from a Lost District Drive home owned by a relative of hers.

According to the complaint, lodged at 12:30 p.m. on March 4, the Maryland woman visiting here in town had been keeping the envelope in a bedroom.

The larceny occurred some time in early February, according to a police report.

Only cleaning staff members were known to be in the home at the time the money went missing, police said.
