Police say they are investigating the death of a 46-year-old Father Peter’s Lane man who was pronounced dead early Sunday at Norwalk Hospital.
At 5:46 a.m., police received a call that Mitchell Vazquez was unresponsive at his residence, according to Lt. Jason Ferraro of the New Canaan Police Department.
No foul play is suspected, Ferraro said.
Stamford attorney Mark Sherman, a family spokesman, released the following statement to NewCanaanite.com: “Mitchell Vazquez was an accomplished businessman and pioneer in the global foreign exchange market. He was also a loving father, stepfather and life partner to his fiancée.”
Vasquez in an online biography is called “one of the pioneers in the online currency trading industry.”
“In 1996, he started Global Capital Investment – a New York based currency trading firm serving both US and international clients,” the biography said. “Mr. Vazquez is currently Chief Executive Officer of GCI US in New York, a registered Forex Firm and NFA member.”
Two years ago, Vazquez filed a defamation lawsuit against journalist and then-New Canaan resident Teri Buhl for an article titled “The Sex and Money Scandal Rocking Hedge Fund Land.” He purchased his home in New Canaan in December 2007 for $7.5 million, tax records show.
