A 43-year-old Sunset Hill Road man at 11:51 a.m. on Jan. 30 reported a fraud attempt to police.

His bank had contacted him Jan. 29 to say that someone phoned the institution pretending to be the New Canaan man.

The caller hung up when he couldn’t provide the answer to a “secret question” set up as a safeguard, though he had the local man’s Social Security number and knew when the account had been opened.

Police are investigating.

A 55-year-old Soundview Lane woman told police that someone tried to transfer $$11,540 out of her account and only was stopped because a financial advisor phoned her to verify it.

At about 8:24 p.m. on Jan. 29, the woman told police that someone likely had hacked into her computer and email account, according to a police report.

The suspect appeared to be emailing with the advisor from within the victim’s account, police said.

No money was lost. Police are investigating.
