Police on Sunday evening arrested a 46-year-old Wilton man and charged him with driving under the influence.

At about 4:26 p.m. on Jan. 13, officers were dispatched to the area of Hoyt Street and East Avenue on a report of a vehicle parked on the side of the road with the driver slouched over the wheel, police said.

Arriving, officers found the man in the driver’s seat with the engine running, according to a police report.

For a time, the man remained asleep even after officers tried him to wake him up, the report said.

Eventually, he did wake up and the officers smelled alcohol on his breath, it said.

As a result of field sobriety tests, police brought the misdemeanor charge, it said.

He refused to undergo a test to establish his blood-alcohol content level, police said.

Police released the man on $250 bond and scheduled him to appear Jan. 23 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
