Police after midnight Sunday arrested a 41-year-old North Salem, N.Y. man and charged him with driving under the influence.
At about 1:14 a.m. on April 16, an officer on patrol clocked a vehicle traveling 58 mph on New Norwalk Road—a 45 mph zone, according to a police report.
During a subsequent stop, the officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath, the report said.
The motorist failed field sobriety tests and later a blood-alcohol test showed .18, more than twice the legal limit, it said.
New Canaan Police additionally cited him for speeding, the report said. Norwalk Police held an active warrant for the man stemming from a separate incident, it said.
Police released the man on $42 bond and scheduled him to appear April 28 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
The road has become a favorite speeding strip all the way up to NY; it’d be great to have more police checks to encourage more reasonable driving along that stretch. Is it possible to slower the traffic around East School, for example, and other critical junctures where there’s pedestrian/family/social activities?
